GSMA Launches "3G For All" Project
June 23, 2006
GSMA (GSM Association) has launched a "3G For All" project to boost 3G service and mobile phone penetration in developing countries. Nine GSMA members, including China Mobile, Hutchison, Vodafone, and Orange, have expressed interest in this project, which will involve promoting WCDMA (Wide Band Code Division Multiple Access) mobile phones with a price tag of US$100. GSMA plans to establish a set of common specifications for 3G mobile phones in the next few months to help makers reduce manufacturing costs.
